Living with Legends

In Lawrence, Kansas, the city commissioners debated and ultimately decided to place William Burrough’s home on the register of historic places.

Burroughs was also fond of the Chelsea, which served as his first stop when he returned from Europe in 1964.  In an essay in Claudio Edigner’s book Burroughs wrote, “Every room in this hotel is different.  You can find rooms from almost any period you want – the twenties, the thirties—or anonymous air-conditioned rooms that could be from anywhere.” 

Forget ambiance, those anonymous air-conditioned rooms are highly prized as the temperature reaches into the 90s.
