Yes, we’ve got a request, bring back the Bards. Some of our fellow residents got surprises in their box this month. Instead of an invoice, they got letters in their boxes informing them they are expected to check out. Even though you may not have been here for long if you have lived here for more than 30 days in the same room you may have rights. Certainly they can’t just invite you to leave. They have to legally start eviction proceedings. We are not lawyers, but perhaps you should talk to a lawyer or a tenants advocacy group. Don’t panic and don’t leave!

Get a clue Glennon –but thanks for the laugh.
We’ll all be lawyered up and have a class action litigation filed against the Hotel before anything like this happens. Try evicting 100 or more residents — maybe if you’ve got 10 – 15 years to invest. We’ll all be demanding our rights when the moment is right. Anybody notice the bulletin board in ILLEGALLY RENOVATED suite 600 otherwise known as the Grand Ballroom and Richard Bernstein’s fabled art studio. Well, they have this board up with large index cards targeting all of the SRO rooms.
By the way, Glennon, work on that signature. You almost have it my man. Surely you can fool some-body into believing you’re a hotel manager, just not usLikeLike

I lived at the Chelsea from 1987-89. I’m going to brave the odds and see what I can find in my old boxes this weekend. Cool idea.

The board does NOT target all the SRO rooms! If you’re going to post information like that, you really should be ACCURATE about it.
It lists all the rooms in the hotel by floor and states what type of room they are. If they are a standard with a bathroom, they have that listed. If they are a one bedroom, they have that listed. They also have the standard room without a bathroom, and the definition of an SRO room is not necessarily what you think…according to what a lawyer recently told me and others.
Stranglers, I know you really want the Bards back, as do I and a great many others, but it seems like you make statements that twist the truth and don’t get the facts accurate.
I don’t know why you seem to think it’s not important to make factual statements regarding something like like supposed targeting of SRO rooms. Don’t you think that your inaccuracies may cause some people who have lived here a long time to panic needlessly?
You’re right about the boards, I’ve seen them myself, but you’re WRONG about what they supposedly “target.” You may THINK that that’s what they mean, but based on what I saw with my own eyes, that is absolutely NOT what the boards indicated to me. It was a listing of all the rooms, room size, what rooms are combined with others, etc….it’s a visual listing of the rooms floor by floor.
What they “target” in the future very well may be the SRO rooms, but it just as easily could be the one bedrooms, standards, etc…
It’s great to inform the public about what’s going on and what you’ve seen, but PLEASE…be ACCURATE for the sake of those people who actually live here and ARE worrying about the future of their residency.
People will definitely give new management a fight if they try evicting people without a good reason.
I’m not a lawyer, CHS, but you actually brought up a good point when you mentioned the class action suit. Does anyone know if this may actually be possible for the residents to do should evictions without good reason begin?LikeLike

Oh, and apparently, you’re wrong about the renovation being illegal. I was recently informed that it wasn’t illegal because the walls didn’t go up to the ceiling. I think there was another reason or two, but the latest word is that it was legal. It’s damn shame because it was a ballroom at one time, but apparently legal.

You sound like an idiot with your rants~
Anything else you’d care to rattle about? Whether the index cards do or do not target the SROs, the board is there, out of sight in an INAPPROPRIATELY if not illegally renovated suite, and BD sure as shit sent letters to the SRO residents demanding payment as soon as they got here. They applied for a permit to demolish an SRO bath on a floor with only one SRO bath. If there is any question that they are targeting SROs and plan to open them up into suites, then you are in the minority that still has questions. Get a clue.
You sure seem to know everything and can point out every inaccuracy as if its a conspiracy against the truth, so I guess you knew all of this as well bigmouthLikeLike
-
Oh, and no name
Since when do we not “actually live here”? Who has their info wrong now?
What a dumbassLikeLike
-
Hotel Stranglers…the only one who truly sounds like an idiot is YOU with YOUR rants and inaccurate claims of facts.
I never said that you didn’t actually live here (who’s the dumbass who seems to misinterpret most things people say if they don’t 100 percent completely agree with your opinions?)…I was speaking in general to the people who actually do live here rather than the people who read this who may NOT live here. You’ve stated before that you live here and that fact hasn’t escaped me.
If you are going to state that index cards on board TARGET SRO rooms, you damn well better be SURE of this for the people who DO live in SRO Room’s sake. Do you see what I mean? How unfair to make the people who live in SRO rooms panic with your INACCURATE statements.
Whether or not the boards target what you say they do DOES MATTER!!! And OTHER people who live in the hotel CARE. I’m sure the public cares about actual facts rather than the “rantings” of people who threaten violence, insult people with very valid points, call people names…again, who’s the “dumbass” in this case?
What you claim to be “sure as shit” is filled with just that- SHIT.
Do you really think that what you say NOT being accurate isn’t important? How old are you? 15? Your behavior sounds like a bratty teenager who thinks their opinion is the only opinion and whatever they claim are facts just because they think it. ANY differing or calling out of inaccuracies makes the other people wrong, “dumbasses” or whatever other names you’ve called people.
I hope you stop posting to this blog because you’re making the residents here seem crazy, immature, short-tempered, and many other negative things. I’d say that on the whole, most residents have far more common sense than you (plural “you” since you claim to be “stranglerS” rather “strangler”) and DO CARE about having statements like the ones you make be ACCURATE. Why make people stress out with inaccurate information when they have enough to worry about at the moment? I CARE about my SRO room friends. If you did as well, you’d think twice before spouting out your claims.
Or guess what, there’s something called an “apology” when you’re mistaken. Ever think of using that to correct yourself? There are boards with index cards that list the kind of room the residents have (different colors separate residents from guest rooms I believe), yes, but you’re mistaken in saying that they target SRO rooms. All you’d have to say is sorry for the mistake, the board part is still accurate. Is that truly so difficult for you? People do make mistakes you know.
As far as the “INAPPROPRIATELY” renovated room, there’s a big difference between “inappropriate” and “ILLEGAL,” and the difference DOES matter a LOT. There’s no “so what?” about that. I agree that that room could have been, and SHOULD have been, put to a much better use. The only good thing is that the walls they put up can be taken down pretty easily. I hope they do so. This is a Landmark building full of history. To use a grand ballroom in such a way is showing a complete ignorance of the Chelsea’s historic importance.
And NO, Stranglers, you’re WRONG AGAIN (JESUS, do you EVER get your facts right?)- BD Hotels did NOT send letters “demanding” payments “as soon as they got here” to the SRO residents. What the hell is it with you and the SRO rooms? Do you live in one? Do you owe back rent? Why not tell a little more about yourself so that we understand why you’re spewing out all these claims without checking your facts?
TO CORRECT YOUR INACCURACIES (AGAIN), they requested (you can call it demanded, whatever) that the people who owe back rent to please pay it. This includes ANYONE who owed back rent, no matter what type of room they have- NOT ONLY THE SRO RESIDENTS!!! I know people with 1 Bedroom who got those notices.
I don’t know what their plans are for the demolishing of the bathroom (just because your room is with a shared bathroom doesn’t make it an SRO room, I think I told you that a lawyer recently said that, which was news to me as well, but nevertheless, he’d know better than either of us).
IF they plan on turning SRO rooms into suites or not remains to be seen. It’s very possible. I’m sure there are going to be tenants in the shared bathroom rooms who will be VERY difficult to evict (for different reasons) but if you think that it’s only the people in your so-called “SRO” rooms who are at risk or will be targeted, well, you’re simply wrong. I’m not going to state on this blog who or why I believe people are at risk (based on what lawyers have told me), but the fact that you actually say you live here and are ranting these type of things shows me how ignorant you actually are.
How do you base your claim about being in the minority anyway? Have you asked ALL the residents their opinion? You haven’t asked me mine and I never told you what I think they’re going to do with “SRO” rooms now, did I? (NO, you just assumed that I thought a certain way, another made up claim on your part).
Who truly needs to get a clue here, Stranglers? (hint: YOU)
I truly hope you think twice and stop posting YOUR rants! They’re full of inaccurate, untruthful (not on purpose I believe), statements!!! This is NOT FAIR to ANYONE, but much less those who live here (I know, YOU live here….blah blah blah) and especially those in SRO rooms who actually look to this blog for information.
A note to those who live here; don’t look to this blog for accurate information because you probably won’t get it a lot of the time. No offense to Ed and Debbie (who I assume aren’t the Hotel Stranglers), but…
“I” seem to “know everything” and can point out every inaccuracy? “I’M” the “bigmouth?” HA! The only reason I point out YOUR inaccuracies is because your so damn inaccurate! Anyone could check up on your statements EASILY and find out that you’re wrong. A person doesn’t have to know “everything” to know that!
The boards with the index cards are in room 600. People are allowed in there at times and they’re in PLAIN SIGHT in that room. I’d hardly call that as “out of sight” as you’re making it seem it is. Yes, it is not sitting in the lobby for all to see, but then, what part of office things ARE? They certainly could be more tucked away than sitting where they’re sitting in that room. More of your spinning of facts, as you seem to be so fond of doing.
Are there any more claims you want to make that I can perhaps easily clarify with the actual TRUTH? And by the way, if I DON’T know something, I’m sure not going to claim that I DO. If it’s an opinion, it’s an opinion, but I don’t think it’s responsible to state facts about important things (targeting SRO rooms, for instance) that affect other people…people I CARE about.

The hotel updated it’s computers about a year ago [or so?] – the program requires a “check out date”…….so an arbitrary date is selected about six months into the future……..this arbitrary “check out date” has previously been manually updated as the date passes…….it is my assumption that 13 August is the date associated with those tenants’ portfolios……this date can be found on the previous monthly statements [check it out]……perhaps the new management believes that the tenant is moving out on that date based on the computer…….the letter from the new management company as I read it here – seems quite gentle, so perhaps this can be worked out……please reply with updates. thanks.

Just wasted a good five minutes reading your post in its full entirety and have concluded you must be insane or working hard at it. Its not typically worthwhile responding to somebody who is so far up their own ass and consumed by so many “out of the loop” innacuracies and just plain wrong information that we’ll let you live out your little fantasy. Yes, you know it ALL.
The hotel didn’t send demand letters to the SROs? OK, if you say so. They didn’t target an SRO bath on the 8th? Once again, you must be right. We’re just making all this up. Didn’t engage in ILLEGAL construction? Well, you’re not living next to it are you and so you probably weren’t aware when the city came to shut it all down.
You don’t even know who the hell you’re talking to so once again, just put a sock in it. You’re apparently not part of anything here except the effort to incite arguments. Wagers are out that you haven’t done a thing (or plan to) toward restoring normalcy here at the hote. Rather, like most people, you just like to hear yourself talk talk talk.
No more time for talk, sorry.LikeLike

LP, I think the initial treatment of Lulu was completely inappropriate. She’s a faithful guest here and always chooses to stay in the same apartment, 1024. All they had to do was look up her history to know this. I’m glad they corrected their mistake and that she was personally apologized to by the higher-ups in new management. I’ve seen very professional behavior on their part, and very UNprofessional behavior as well…and the unprofessional behavior is a bit worrisome.
To fellow No Names:
No name 1-Based on your posts, you’re the kind of person who can’t seem to accept being mistaken, corrected, or called out on any of your errors or you lose your temper, blame the other person who corrects you, and STILL continues to insist that you’re right even when you can be PROVED wrong. Talk about working on being insane or working hard at it- you’ve got your Ph.D in it, don’t you?
It’s pretty ridiculous that you’re insisting that they targeted SRO rooms with the back rent requests when there are people who have 1 bedrooms who got them. I really don’t know what to say when you refuse to believe the FACTS. Stick to your delusional fantasy world, you seem to be far more comfortable there than in reality.
CLAIM: ALL SRO rooms got back rent “demands.”
FACT: The people in SRO rooms who DON’T owe money DIDN’T get a rent demand. Also, people who owed back rent in studios, 1 bedrooms, etc, got rent demands.
I guess those people are making THAT up then. Why they would, I don’t know, but if you insist on not believing it….
CLAIM: They are targeting the SRO bathrooms. They targeted the 8th floor SRO bathroom.
FACT: I haven’t seen any demolishing of the 8th floor SRO bathroom. I know that one of the ones on the 9TH FLOOR is being renovated, but nothing on the 8th floor that I’m aware of.
You believe every little thing you read (if you want to believe it’s true) and every little piece of gossip you hear, don’t you? What is “targeting” to you anyway? It seems odd that a 9th floor SRO room is actually BEING renovated when the 8TH floor one was “targeted” as well as all the SRO bathrooms according to your previous posts.
If you’re going to insist on something being a fact and yet when there’s no proof of what you claim, I’m sorry, but it’s the responsibility of the people who actually DO know the facts/truth/accurate story to CORRECT the inaccurate one.
This doesn’t mean that those who do make corrections know it all as you claim. In fact, I keep saying that I DON’T know it all or everything and wouldn’t make claims if I didn’t know the truth with some proof behind it. That’s another thing I’ve repeatedly said that you refuse to grasp. My friend read your response above and shook his head with disbelief it was so…”amazing.”
I really care about my friends in SRO rooms and to hear them fret over something someone like you insists on being a fact is disturbing. They feel better when they hear about the people with 1 bedroom who got the notice and when they see for themselves the physical lack of “targeting” you claim.
Like I said before, maybe they’ll target ALL SRO rooms in the future, but that’s not the case now. And that doesn’t mean that people in other types of rooms have nothing to worry about.
Other No Name, I’ll shut up already just as soon as people like you guys do. It’s really incredibly unfair to cause residents to worry about something that isn’t accurate and can be proven inaccurate. Do you disagree with this? That’s my problem with the other person. But then, I suppose there’s no arguing with people who really are insane. They’re sure doing a LOT of projecting of issues. The responses to what I write concerning certain inaccuracies reveals a great deal about them, and anyone with even a shred of intelligence can see that.
If you’re the same person who wrote that you’ve lived here a year and thought you knew everything about how this place operates, I apologize if you took that as a major insult. I was trying to convey that there are people who have lived here for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS who don’t know everything about how this place operates. There are surprises all the time. To think you could possibly know everything in this regards after merely one year (which, compared to a LOT of people here, IS nothing), but I didn’t mean to imply that your year here was meaningless or of less value than anyone else’s…IF that’s how you interpreted it.
This is a very complex place and I’m not sure if even the Bards know EVERYTHING about how this place operates. Those who have lived here for a long time probably know what I mean.
In talking with other residents, it’s interesting to hear how many of them can accept the FACTS surrounding an action, such as the rent “demands” to residents. But then, the people in SRO rooms who DIDN’T get a rent demand because they aren’t behind in their rent know how inaccurate your claim is. They’re living proof of this.
Also, if you live NEXT TO room 600, you must live in the phone booths or behind the front desk in the office because there ARE NO ROOMS “NEXT TO” the grand ballroom! You’re also wrong when you say I don’t know who I’m talking to as I know EXACTLY who I’m talking to- a TOTAL DELUSIONAL NUTCASE.
We are in agreement about how inappropriate the grand ballroom is for offices, so why do you continue to argue unless it’s compulsive and you simply can’t help yourself.
When you live somewhere for a long time and read such inaccuracies being insisted upon by other people who supposedly live here, it DOES get me a bit “lathered up” because I CARE about this place and the people in it because it’s MY HOME.
If I don’t have inside information and YOU do, I haven’t a clue as to where you’re getting your inside info from because, sorry to say, you’re just plain incorrect about a LOT of things you say. the thing is, some of the things in which you’re wrong about, you’d think you’d be GLAD to have them be wrong as it’s better for the residents, but you just have the need to be feel right or superior more than the need to be ACCURATE.
If you can prove MY claims inaccurate, go ahead. I’ve done checking so I’m pretty sure I’m absolutely correct, but….IF you can prove something wrong, I’ll be more than happy to admit it.
Having a lot of bull being spread and believed by people who live here can be more emotional torture for people who are already very worried. Do you care about THEM?LikeLike

Honestly, lp, I really do wish I WERE a part of new management. Unfortunately, I am not.
By the way, “The invaders” is what you call new management, but I don’t think I’ve noticed any moniker for the hotel guests. What do you consider the guests to be?LikeLike

“Duh?” haha. Well, I’m glad to hear it because that IS what they are. However, and I could be wrong, I get the feeling that you’ve got some other name for the “guests” that gets used when you feel like it, such as…when management places the importance of a hotel guest before a resident’s. Or when the comfort of a hotel guest matters more than the comfort of a resident.
The truth of the matter is that there are valid reasons why this happened- whether people want to admit it or not- but if new management comes in and destroys all that the Bards have created, changes the energy, spirit, or character of the hotel…they will be devaluing it as a piece of living history. Do the other shareholders REALLY want to do that? If they are truly greedy and are truly smart, they’d think twice before messing with that sort of thing, and that sort of thing relies a great deal on the residents who live here…in my opinion.LikeLike

Or when the comfort of a hotel guest matters more than the comfort of a resident.
You’re wrong, as usual. Pick a side already. You’re tiresome as is and your sympathies for the new regime keep flaring.
I have always valued the hotel guests, and tried ot be helpfgul and make them comfortable. I would like it to continue to be so, but not if it is at the expense of residents or of the spirit of the hotel. I like that Stanley attracted a lot of regulars, and free-spirited, open minded guests, but that even a few who stuimbled in by accident were human enoughto get to know it and appreciate it even though it wasn’t what they were expecting. people looking for a hilton however, should check into a hilton. maybe you should too.LikeLike
-
I’m far less wrong about things than you seem to be…and at least I admit to possibly being wrong when it comes to think such as people’s opinions, rather than facts, which you’re continually wrong about.
I don’t HAVE to pick a side! Don’t you get that? I see BOTH sides points and agree with aspects of BOTH sides…because I’m an adult and have a brain that’s not closed to the facts that I don’t want to believe are true but are. In the end, I prefer to have Stanley and David here. That’s where I stand. Your responses and statements are more than a bit irrational, and then some. I outgrew that type of thinking when I was still a teenager.
I have to say that I respect what you said about valuing the hotel guests and your claims of trying to be helpful and make them comfortable. I do as well. The guests have nothing to do with what MAY happen to the residents. That’s not the guests fault. And if the residents come first to you, why do you continue to argue with me when I’ve been more than fair about certain facts that you’ve been mistaken about while, at the same time, still stating my feelings about wanting the Bards to be in charge?
This isn’t the place for such stupid debates- and it is stupid.
If I wanted to live in the Hilton, believe, if I could afford to do so, I would. But guess what? I DON’T WANT THE HILTON! DUH! You seem to be twisting everything I’ve said AGAIN by implying that I’m looking for the Hilton in this place! If you want a slum, move into the projects.
I don’t think any residents have issues with wanting to renovate and update aspects of this hotel, as Stanley and David were beginning to do. The difference is turning this into a characterless, spiritless, resident-less shell of a hotel and that would be a disgrace. I’ve been saying this over and over. Do you not agree with me on this? We seem to be in agreement with a lot of MAJOR points yet you still want to twist and argue the things I say that aren’t completely against new management. Grow up already! It’s adult to see the valid points of both sides.LikeLike

I wonder if it would be too much to ask for the commenters here to assign names for themselves so as to spare some confusion. We are in a bastion of creativity after all.
And another thing – No Name hasn’t said anything provocative at all in this post; (s)he’s just clarifying generalizations that have been made – hardly something to get upset over. I know that I’ve made this observation before but it seems like this, “If you don’t speak ill of New management you are against the Chelsea Hotel” rhetoric is unabated. I agree that what the Board did was bad and an ample amount of ball busting is appropriate but Stanley Bard did, from what I hear, some REALLY messed up things over the years and it is very unlikely he’ll be coming back. Presently no one has been evicted, the rates of rooms are down, and some people have even been getting weekly flowers in their shared bathrooms (the cleanliness of which is also remarkable). I know that Ed has an agenda to take down the Evil Empire which precludes him from reporting any positive news but the added vitriolic content of some of these comments makes the residents look like hungry jackals sustained only by misrepresentations, ad hominem attacks, and libel. Public support for the artists who live here is not a given so for your own sake residents please stop foaming at the mouth.LikeLike

people don’t post names because they don’t need the hassle of becoming targets of vitriol simply because they have opinions that go toward preserving this place at-any-cost. its true that most opinions these days are empty words, but their owners are entitled to them whether you like it or not. try posting IDEAS instead of ATTACKS on the way people feel about a subject that means more to them than it does to you.

No Name Calling…while I agree that the Bards have run this hotel for a very long time and created what it is today, I don’t think ANYONE is saying to kowtow to the authority that forced Stanley out…unless you mean the laws of this country.
The person who was truly forced out of his “birthright” was DAVID Bard.
Why do you think that the son and daughter of the other two PARTNERS of the hotel have no birthright on this place as well?
It was bought by the Bards AND the grandfathers of the other two shareholders, if I’m not mistaken. SO, just because one family runs the place doesn’t mean that the other families don’t have rights. The Bards took a large salary (deserved) for running the hotel but they’d never have run it had the other two PARTNERS not helped Stanley’s grandfather to purchase it in the first place. That’s what PARTNERS are. They have a right to certain things that they should have been getting but weren’t. THAT is what the ruling was about really…not necessarily about the way the hotel was managed in a sense of the creativity, spirit, culture, etc…THAT isn’t what’s disputed.
One can be worried about ending up on the street because of new management but still support the Bards as managers. If you want to deny certain facts that brought the hotel to the current managerial state, you’re just being delusional and are in denial.
Some of us don’t seem to be “men and women” here, but rather children who want to say that their best friend did NOT steal the blueberry pie off the windowsill while that friend stands there with blueberry-stained teeth. I think a lot of you are just worried because you cant afford to live where you live, and you live there while owing lots of money, and want to continue living like that. But, ya know what, look outside of the box, in reality NO ONE is able to go against the law and live for free. No one in Manhattan lives for free. No one lives for free anywhere! Thats life, in order to live you have to pay. What makes you think that you have the right to break the law yourselves?

Wait, No Name is allowed to say anything and be rude but nobody can respond? Give me a break. Get off the fence. Being an adult also means taking a stand and committing to it. Your endless defenses of people who have contributed diddly to the place over the years and clearly don’t understand it are tiresome to say the least. As for these repairs you keep calling for, have they started? They’ve said a lot of stuff about “improving” the place but all they’ve done as far as I know is take actions that demonstrate a clear lack of understanding of the Chelsea spirit. If you are indeed a resident of the hotel then Stanley let you into a unique, unparalleled place. What have these people done for you or for anyone there?
That goes for you too, Cowboy. You’re damned Lucky Stanley saw it in his heart to let you into the community. I for one never saw a dirty bathroom or any great need for repairs in the several rooms I occupied, nor in any of my friends’ apartments, nor in any of the guest rooms visiting friends’ occupied.LikeLike
-
Guess what? Most people pay a lot of rent at the hotel. If you, the no name who thinks it’s a free ride, are a resident, how did you get in there? People are fighing for Staley because they love him, love the community in the hotel, and share the spirit. You don’t.
Since you’re casting such big stones at the residents, perhaps you should take your own advice and shut the fuck up.
Nobody is free of sin. Should we not protest anything? If the city lets garbage pile up should we remain docile and let it be? If taxes are raised on everyone to 75%? The war? Communism? Child abuse? Should people have shut up about slavery? Idiot.LikeLike

Hey, I wanna move into the Chelsea Hotel!
Maybe the new management will let me since I work in finance, and am as far from an artist as a person can get.LikeLike

The so-called “partners” are not equal partners. The Chelsea Trust that David Elder oversees (very temporarily one hopes) has a mere 16% of the shares. The two “partners” together have a minority share. If you factor in all the many many hours/years Stanley worked for the place there is no contest when it comes to determining who has the moral right to the place. And if you could quantify certain other things, the art created there, the loves lived, the love for the Bards, well, you get my drift. Let us all pray to whatever force of good we believe in as individuals that this travesty will soon be rectified in the Bards favor.

Michelle, Stanley welcomed all people he felt shared a certain spirit. As long as I can remember there were investment bankers, stockbrokers, blue collar workers, white collar workers, professionals, homemakers as well as artists in the hotel.

LP- regarding professions- that’s the first thing you’ve said that is completely accurate. 😉
There have always been people of all professions here at the hotel. Unfortunately, the media makes it appear that the hotel is an artists’ colony, and there are a large number of people in the creative professions here (as there are in Manhattan in general), but it’s not ONLY artists
LP’s also right about the fact that a bunch of people do pay a lot to live here, but it is true that there are a lot of people who don’t as well…it’s a mix. I agree that people seem to think that the residents who live here ALL pay next to nothing. That is a misconception. I’m obviously not the “no name” who thinks it’s a free ride…that’s for sure!
Whoever thinks that this hotel is full of artists who pay almost nothing to live here is a perfect example of why it’s important to be accurate with “facts” said about what’s going on here.
LP, NOBODY said that you can’t respond to things (another warped interpretation in your mind). I’m only rude to YOU when you’re rude to ME or others in attempt to make you realize that there IS a difference between FACTS and OPINIONS. And it IS VERY important to get those important facts straight and be accurate because that’s how rumors get spread. When you act on rumors or opinions instead of things that can be PROVEN to be true, you often make very bad mistakes and cause trouble not only for yourself but others as well, and I don’t believe that’s a fair thing to do at a time like this.
I apologize if you take things I said as being rude (and I admit that a few things I’ve said in response to your posts haven’t been the most polite), but at the very least, for the sake of the other residents, I ask that you try and get important facts accurate rather than just spouting off your opinion as if they’re facts and then acting as though it’s not important that what you’ve said is wrong. That’s fair.
Why do you keep saying that I’m saying they’re here to make improvements and repairs as if I claim it’s their main reason for the takeover? I’ve told you over and over that that’s not what I believe.
They have SAID they are planning on making renovations, repairs, and improvements here and YES, I HAVE seen some of this. Haven’t you? Are you just keeping a blind eye on that part? There aren’t any MAJOR improvements yet, but I’ve seen some, and some that have actually surprised me…in a good way. Some in a not-so-good way (the partitions in room 600).
The takeover was definitely a money thing as well…and I’d say MOSTLY a money thing.
And NO, LP, being an adult does NOT also mean taking a stand and then committing to it! THAT is a closed-minded, arrogant, and foolish way to be. Being an adult means being able to see the FACTS and REASONS behind BOTH sides of the argument and not saying “who cares?” to FACTS just because they don’t help your case. That doesn’t mean they aren’t true and it makes you look childish, ignorant, and just plain stupid to ignore those facts.
Taking a stand- I’ve stated that I’d prefer to see the Bards in charge time and time again. You’re exhibiting that closed-mindedness, ignorant, and stupid side when you constantly act as though I’ve not said this.
Backing so-called “facts” and “sides” that are not in the wrong is NOT something to be proud of or to be considered an adult. I’m sorry that you don’t get that but those type of statements reveal more about YOU than me. And you’re proving yourself to be just as I’m saying.
There’s nothing wrong with admitting that the “other side” has valid points you know. That doesn’t make you a traitor, LP. I don’t think people will think ill of you if you admit that the other shareholders had some valid issues…and apparently the judge agreed.
I hope the other shareholders also recognize that this hotel wouldn’t be what it is today had it NOT been for the Bards and they should respect THAT fact as well.
For your information, LP, new management has actually done a few things for me and other people. This includes some of the staff too. The world isn’t all black and white, there’s a lot of gray. You just don’t want to admit the gray part it seems, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s there.
Just because you haven’t seen any need for great repairs doesn’t mean they aren’t there. I for one have seen a LOT and deal with my own need of repairs (I could complain about the condition of the wood floors from day ONE) and was just in a hotel room of a guest where I saw very visible need of repair.
The Bards were renovating…THEY knew it needed it too. If the Bards were attempting to renovate and have admitted that the hotel needs repairs, why is it so hard for YOU to do the same? If you haven’t seen it with your own eyes, you’re either purposely ignoring it, or you’ve been lucky.
The place is far from being a slum, but all old buildings need upkeep and sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of that when other things are going on and need to be taken care of on a more emergency situation basis.
Victoria- Nothing personal, but Wikipedia can be changed by anyone and I wouldn’t hold too much weight on anything written in there. For all we know, you could have just changed added the “misdeeds” yourself and then posted on this blog about it. It’s that easy.
Hermione- It’s a valid point that the Bards still have the majority of the shares and the partners aren’t equal partners, but when it comes to voting on the board and all the other factors behind the court ruling, I’m afraid that the fact that they aren’t “equal partners” didn’t matter enough to overrule.
I hope that the Bards can be brought back in and that they can find a way to work together with new management. Nobody can dispute the fact that it was the Bards who have nurtured this hotel over the years and cultivated the character and spirit of its history- past and present.LikeLike

No Nasme sez: “And NO, LP, being an adult does NOT also mean taking a stand and then committing to it!”
It does. Committing to a stand doesn’t mean being close-minded, as you say. History is full of people who displayed tremendous courage in standing up for what they believe, which I consider an adult thing. It means not being wishy-washy or fence-sitting forever.
Nice to have to definitively state that you’re for Stanley’s hotel.LikeLike
