Born & Drukier have trumpeted the fact that they have achieved the Chelsea’s high occupancy rate without slashing rates. But on the Chelsea Hotel website we see once again that they are advertising rooms for the bargain basement price of $119.00 a night, which I probably don’t need to tell you, is the lowest seen at the Chelsea in quite a few years. So who are they trying to fool, The Post and the public at large, or only prospective guests? We can’t help noticing that the $119 rate is “subject to availability,” so maybe it’s just never available.

I think it’s a cruel myth. I booked my room about two months in advance and that price wasn’t an option…and my room a standard with a shared bath. I wonder what a $119 room would look like???

I too tried really hard to stay there but there were never any dates available at rates anywhere near that price. I have been here for four weeks with two weeks to go. They did offer me a special deal of 379 a night if I stayed a week. Not in my budget!
I am going to just have to settle with a visit if they don’t kick me out for trespassing. I was hoping to take some photographs of the hotel if possible but I assume they won’t let me do that.
Cheers from an Australian Fan of the heritage.

Didn’t Composer George Kliensinger live at the Chelsea Hotel in the eighties?
