We are sad
to learn of the passing of former Chelsea Hotel resident Arthur C. Clarke. Despite being ill at the time, Clarke graciously sent an e-mail to support the Bards back in June. NPR and The New York Times have great coverage today. (Thanks to Judith & Mary Anne for the tip.)
Other appreciations of Clarke: Teresa & Patrick Nielsen, Jeff Vandermeer, Peter Steinberg, Colleen Lindsay.

Arthur loved the Chelsea (and Stanley) so much he came back to visit in the late 1990s, even though he was wheelchair-bound. I was lucky enough to spend some time with him (between visits from Buzz Aldrin and Walter Cronkite on one particular sunny afternoon). He made a few new friends in the hotel on that visit. Arthur, R.I.P. I shall never forget your “electric bedpan” story.
