As we’ve indicated earlier, Legends was able to obtain the court papers relating to BD NY Hotels vs. Chelsea 23rd Street Corp.  Interestingly enough, these papers include an itemized list of the hotel’s expenditures over the last few months of 2007.  Rest assured, we are studying these closely to see where our rent money is going.
Anyway, one of the highlights of the list are the payments to hotel layabout David Elder: $365.25 in July, $131.37 in August, $706.65 in November, and three payments of $706.65, $478.90, and 455.06 for a whopping $1640.41 in December.  (Unlike all the other expenses listed—including items such as carpet, carpentry supplies, furniture ordered by Stanley, accounting, legal—these payments to Elder are Eldersign_2 unexplained, though one time it does say, simply, “expenses”.)  Scarcely what we would call a valued employee—though he did get quite a raise in December.  And let’s not forget about the spacious apartment he has been allowed to use for 9 months free of charge!

Also, between July and December, Marlene and BD spent $146,143.59 of the hotel’s money in legal fees, presumably at least in part to battle Stanley Bard, and another $26,285 on payments to accounting firms, presumably to dig up dirt on the old man (those accountants could learn a thing or two from the lawyers).  In addition “security requested by Marlene Krauss” runs the hotel $13,655.25. What the hell?! you ask.  Well, remember the goons that looked like rejects from the Sopranos that sat in the lobby for awhile?  These fine fellows were no doubt necessary  to prevent Stanley from overpowering David Elder and stealing the Larry Rivers painting from the wall.
Perhaps most interesting, at least from our point of view, is the money paid to Rubenstein for “public relations/crisis management”: two payments of $45,000 each!  (Well, one for $45, 212.58—probably charged Marlene for copies or something.  Lawyers ain’t got nothin’ on them.)  And what did Rubenstein do, exactly?  Issue a couple of half-assed press releases and refuse to take calls from the media?  The whole Stanley Bard ouster turned into one hell of a big, fat, hairy public relations disaster for both BD and the minority shareholders.  Marlene, why didn’t you just offer us $90,000 not to write about you?  We wouldn’t have taken it, but we certainly would have appreciated the gesture. — Ed Hamilton  (Photo: David Elder proudly displaying his sign making skills.  Maybe that’s why he gets the big bucks.  By the way, that sign recently returned to bite him in the butt.)

These expenses are totally appalling. To pay Rubenstrein (who also represents Giuliani) a fee to trash the majority shareholder in the press ought to give Stanley a strong case for misappropriation of company money. The pr fees were used to exclusively bolster Marlene.
Marlene has totally steered the hotel into chaos for her own personal vendetta.
And as for the legals– they were also used to bullying non-rent stabilized longterm tenants by jumping their rents to a totally unreasonable amount to make it impossible to stay. The more evicted residents, the less resistance to their agenda.
And Marlene says she wants to clean up the hotel’s legacy?! How can Marlene live with her legacy which will be one of bullying, paying for positive press despite the horrors she has caused, and repeatedly disregarding the lives of others?

contrast David Elder’s accomodations at the Hotel Chelsea with the dumpy little apartment he left behind in ‘the Valley’, its pretty clear why he’d rather be there than out west. plus he has no friends out west either. all my love, rochelle h.

The security guards are back in the lobby. Reportedly, it’s all because there was some civil disobedience activity at the photography show and Elder got freaked out. I guess he really didn’t want his twin to stop by for a visit.

So they’re willing to pay $13,000 per week to harass Artie. He just won rent stabilization. Seems a little strange that Elder would risk another lawsuit from Artie.

Another $13,000 wasted. Add that to the money wasted on Rubenstein, and BD — oh dear, quite a litany of foolish expenditures by the oh so wise new controllers.

I look at David Elder’s face and think, oh well, what really matters is if you’re beautiful on the inside.
    Oh. Wait.
    How Sad for him.

If Stanley would have met his doppelganger as such at an art show, he would have laughed, and probably had his picture taken with him. How many times did we see Business Stanley in shouting matches with people he was suing/being sued by, then suddenly Art Lover and Friend Stanley would calmly and sincerely ask the other party how their work was going? Just one more thing you can add to Stanley’s virtues — he rarely if ever held a grudge.

These people always do exactly the wrong thing. Some of these acts might be the right things in a Harvard Business School model, and many not by any standard, but the Chelsea is Through the Looking Glass in a sense. Things must be done differently, the chelsea way, or you shatter the glass. These people don’t get it.

We had a few pallatible minutes of fresh air and peace when BD left, and now we have two – four thugs guarding David Elder at a huge expense. The negative vibe is back. This ‘threat’ to his life must impart his ability to ‘manage’ the hotel (although he says that Jacob Yankoff is the manager). Maybe he should move out and spare the expense and possible liabilities stemming from physical conflict.

We LOVE Jacob he is an amazing person and don’t believe he’s the type to take some bullshit orders from Krauss and lapdog Elder for a few dollars more. We do hope he is made full time manager, but his virtuesprobably disqualify him from filling the job description as it exists presently

Oh, the very sad irony of it all, that these two know-it-alls, Marlene and David, thought Stanley didn’t know how to manage the hotel, and they have put the place in the dumper. My dears, Marle and Davey boy, karma is a bitch and she bites hard. You are killing the goose who laid your golden eggs.
