It is well known that David Elder and Marlene Krauss want to get rid of long term residents and turn the place into a generic and very boring luxury hotel. It has also been demonstrated that they are determined to exploit the history created by generations of long term tenants for their own profit. They are, in a word, ruthless. As David Elder evidently has nowhere else to go and nothing else to occupy his time, he is determined to hold on no matter what, despite the great damage this has done to his reputation and that of Marlene Krauss whose names have become veritable curse words in New York. We hope the living residents will fight with all their wit and might. We ghosts will continue to whisper “Bring Back the Bards” in the hallways and cause our usual mischief. An emergency meeting of the Dead Tenants Asociation has been called to discuss further action.

Those of us watching hope you’ll keep them in the courts for years. Don’t leave without a fight.This seems to be the Elder way of doing things, even nasty things – like trying to find a legal way to screw Piri Thomas out of his money. Fight fire with fire.

Elder must really be hurting for dough.
But…
If your SRO isn’t registered with DHCR then chances are GOOD that Elder owes YOU money so don’t panic and whatever you do, don’t give him any money.
For those who have called DHCR and KNOW their place wasn’t ever registered (and therefore automatically Rent Stabilized) then you have plenty of options which include WAITING for Elder to sue you so that you can file counterclaims at no cost to yourself. But will he sue knowing he can’t prove the apartment isn’t Rent Stabilized??? Probably not since the case will be thrown out and viewed as frivilous litigation.

Another bystander, pulling for the home boys. It’s obvious the devious little bastard is coming up with these scams on the fly and had no idea the Chelsea wasn’t registered. Perhaps when he and M. Krauss are awash in compensatory legal liabilities OF THEIR OWN MAKING they’ll crawl back in their holes and BRING BACK THE BARDS!

I agree with the person who says that we need more love around this place. But I also think we need more people to use their brains and their common sense around this place. There are a lot of sheep who just blindly believe whatever they’re told. It’s as if they have no clue what’s happening in NYC. No one is in the building thanks to the good graces of David Elder and Marlene Krauss. Rest assured, David Elder and Marlene Krauss are not going to stop with attempting to evict 20 people who happen to owe rent. Then, they simply pick 20 more people to go after for various reasons.
