On Thursday, September 18, a longtime resident of the Chelsea was attacked outside the hotel by a bouncer working for Star Lounge.  The attack allegedly occurred when the resident stepped out of a cab that the bouncer thought had parked too close to his motorcycle (presumably the same one that wakes us all up at 4 in the morning, though the bouncer has lately had his muffler fixed, so it hasn’t been as bad as it once was).  Since we were unable to contact the resident, we are not in a position to comment on the exact nature of the assault. Why should any of us have to put up with such an attack in what is essentially the front yard of our home?
Of course, we have our own security team now, members of which guard the front door, seemingly 24 hours a day.  And so, you might ask: where were these gentlemen when this attack was taking place?  Surely we can count on them to protect our physical well-being when a dispute arises.  Well, one of these guards was indeed present, but he reportedly took the bouncer’s side, and joined him in berating the resident!

All of which leads to the obvious question: if these guards are not here to protect us, why are they here at all?  We’ve always done fine without them, even through the bad old days of the seventies, eighties and nineties, and now crime in NYC and the Chelsea neighborhood is down to its lowest level ever.  Or is there some illegal activity that has occurred, or is occurring, in the hotel that we haven’t been told about?

Whatever the case, Star Lounge is a tenant of this building, subject to the rules imposed by the management of the Chelsea Hotel , and their employees need to be held to a higher standard of civility than appears to be the case at the present time. — Ed Hamilton

The resident who was attacked by the Star lounge bouncer should file an immediate harassment complaint with DHCR. there are already two violent physical assaults by these “security” people that are being investigated. Here is number three – that we have heard about

What room was broken into????? Were the Police called? Do we all need to be worried now about a burglar in the building? How about those cameras? Working yet?

The security was probably down in the nightclub trying to be ‘cool’.

The Hotel had to break into a room to help a guest retrieve some items.

Silly boy! The security guards aren’t there to protect the tenants. They’re there to protect me from the tenants, lest they try to hurt me with a pointed bon mot.

This is insane. It truly is the Bizarro-world Chelsea now. It has gone from a friendly, relaxed, creative place to a thuggish, intimidating, uptight place. The little heirs are behaving like slumlords, harassing the tenants.

Aren’t the guards here to protect management from the dangerous tenants? How much money are the owners forking out for them? What happened to the doormen who were never there when you needed them? At least they served a function, in theory.

    Dear Ed,
I saw the “incident”. You are making way too “much adoo about almost nothing.” Cool down.

    Dear Anon,
If you saw the “incident” why don’t you describe what happened!

Ed seems cool enough. And its not ‘much ado about nothing’, but rather a pattern of violent behavior on the part of so called security who work for a nightclub. They have no business interacting with Hotel guests nevermind accosting them. I’m sure the lawyers have already gotten statements. Doubtful you saw anything since the resident who got attacked was screaming his head off at the front desk for the cops

First off, aren’t YOU ‘Anon’? And a better question is why don’t YOU describe it. You just said you saw it. So go ahead and spill

“dangerous” tenants? Do we have any “dangerous” tenants? Not that I know of.
And to the other unsigned poster, yes please, describe the incident if you really saw it, and are not just David Elder or Charles Ferri trying to spin the discussion.

dangerous tenants? what a load of propaganda. for over fifty years the hotel was fine under the bards management. everybody got by ok without a bunch of overweight, chainsmoking slobs who we’re supposed to believe are here for OUR security? they dont present as well as most valet parking attendants and have the brains to match. its only now that the bards are gone that these type of “people” can abuse the hotel and its residents. bard would never have allowed it, and he’d have had those so called security guards thrown in jail before he’d let them abuse one or more of his tenants.

I heard about another incident on the ninth floor the other night, one involving a screaming guest. A resident called for security but they never came. Oh well. I don’t know what these guys are here for, scowling replacements for the smiling Andre in front? Doesn”t make sense. Meanwhile, anything scary happens, call 911.

Its getting pathetic to watch how some of the Hotel door staff are so keen to hang out in the so-called Star Lounge instead of manning the front door like they should, and how staff from the lounge are constantly trying to hang out in the Hotel. Grass is always greener, sure, the lawnmower is on its way. But in the meantime is running joke Charles Ferri giving them free drinks on the clock, or what?
‘New Management’ i.e. Andrew Tilley seems OK with these complete strangers roaming our hallways, lobby and front door as they wish, blocking the path of residents as an earlier post accurately described. Nevermind the fact that these jackasses already admitted assaulting one resident without any provocation, and/or helped to facilitate assaults. Just for the sake of not incurring additional liability you’d think the club would make them disappear

I think that the Star Lounge should be evicted from the building.
