Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of Nancy Spungen’s tragic death in room 100 of the Chelsea Hotel.  Some still believe Sid to be innocent of the crime, which leaves a big

mystery to be solved.  We wonder if any of the punk rockers who used to make the pilgrimage to the Chelsea have any events planned to commemorate the occasion.  We haven’t seen too many of them in recent years. Rest in peace, Nancy.

Here’s former resident Elizabeth Pugh playing Nancy Spungen in a video that former resident Luke Jorger shot a couple of years ago.  Seems we have lots of former residents that haven’t been replaced.

I too was wondering if anyone would make the pilgrimage or even remember that it was the 30th anniversary of Nancy’s death. A new film/documentary called “Who Killed Nancy?” is slated for release in 2009.

I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD THAT STANLEY DISCOURAGED THAT, SO ANY MEMORIAM WOULD HAVE TO BE ON THE DOWN LOW AT THE HOTEL. BUT WE REMEMBER NANCY, SHE WAS THE VERY FACE AND ESSENCE OF WHAT PUNK WAS ABOUT: TORTURED, MISUNDERSTOOD KIDS.

Didn’t everyone think Neon Leon did it? He was seen with their swag later!

I stayed at the Chelsea this weekend just for this occasion. Although I paid my respects on the down low, I admit that the atmosphere was more low-key than expected, especially since it was the 30th year anniversary of Nancy’s death. I had a great time all the same. There is no place like Hotel Chlesea.

I quietly marked the anniversary from my hospital bed by taking selected readings from Ed’s book [don’t go to hospital without it!]. One strives not to be morbid.
    Thirty years… I simply can’t be that old…
