Good to have you on board, Ira!  First Drukier—a partner in BD Hotels, which ran the Chelsea Hotel for 10 months—was quoted in Chris Shott’s article in the Observer as saying that the only man who could run the Chelsea Hotel is Stanley Bard.  Now, in the Independent, he points out that, as Legends has said before, what BD was trying to do was to bring the building up to code, including registering tenants with the DHCR so that their rent could be collected legally (and, of course, so they could be legally evicted).  (Marlene didn’t appreciate BD’s slow, methodical, legal plan, wanting to move faster, so she fired them.)  Also:

Drucker [sic] is so concerned about the hotel’s physical structure that he dares to give disgruntled residents such as Hamilton some advice: "They should get themselves a lawyer, because that place could be a lawsuit waiting to happen," he says. "They wouldn't have to pay rent ever."

Thank’s Ira.  I myself already have a lawyer, as do 40 or more of the tenants of the Chelsea, and we are pressing our cases in court.  But your advice remains good for the rest of the Chelsea’s tenants, who, for whatever reason, have not yet contacted an attorney.
Though in the past, Ira, we have had a bit of fun at your expense on the blog, we have an enemy in common now, and perhaps between us we can throw enough fuel on the fire to burn the evil witch Marlene Krauss at the stake. — Ed Hamilton  (As of press time, Ira Drukier had not responded to our request for a comment.)

There are actually many more than forty Chelsea tenants represented by lawyers. Only forty or so of us have had occassion to engage them against Marlene and Elder so far, though. Push comes to shove there will be even more litigation by tenants, more legal expenditures by management defending against frivilous lawsuits they themselves brought on, and so forth. Better just to Bring Back the Bards and stop this very expensive charade.

A moment of clarity for Drukier. Though I’m reminded after reading his comments that in 8 months he never introduced himself or his management team to residents, and instead sicced Glennon Travis on the hotel population like a black plague. Not exactly the way one might expect a responsible professional to behave. Maybe he’ll mitigate this by elaborating on his comments to the Independent.

Was it before or after he was fired that Drukier came to accept what residents have been saying all along. BRING BACK THE BARDS.

Ira, all is forgiven. Except for Glennon Travis. But everything else? Forgiven. Even those glass towers.

The bottom falls out of the market, Tilley finds himself way out of his depth, and what does Marlene care? She only owns a small piece of the Chelsea Hotel which may be the root of her problem to begin with — avarice usually is. Its the Bards who hurt the most from her mismanagement – who does she think she’s fooling? And Elder, well, why bother commenting on a mumbling nitwit who controls even less of the Hotel than Marlene does — the guy is a mistake of nature. They can’t run business into the ground fast enough.

New england Hotels, the Chelsea is owned by Stanley Bard (the majority shareholder nad manager for over fifty years) and two minority shareholders, Marlene Krauss and David Elder. The latter two engineered a shareholder coup in summer 2007, despite rarely setting foot in the place before that. Stanley bard is the son of one of the original owners. Marlene Krauss is the daughter of one (who also had a reputation for being a destructive boor who couldn’t see the intrinsic value of the hotel). David Elder is the grandson of an original shareholder. He is also the stepson of Piri Thomas. Google David Elder and Piri Thomas and see for yourself what Elder did to the old man. These two minority shareholders are very very creepy people.
