Hurray! Tee-shirts will save this sinking ship.  Good Plan Marlene Krauss and Andrew Tilley.   Actually there were already tee-shirts in the display case on the left of the desk.  Now they’ve also appeared here on the right hand side of the desk.  The tee-shirts in this case replaced the New York Times article on the history of the hotel as well as other documents related to the culture of the hotel.

This is not even smart from a business point of view as people who come here are interested in the rich counterculture history of the place.  That’s the only thing that will make them want to buy a tee-shirt.  Otherwise, they might as well have one from the Holiday Inn or the Hard Rock Café.  And isn’t $30.00 steep as well.  On the other hand, they’ll need to sale a lot of these tee-shirts to make up for all of the revenue they’re loosing on the vacant commercial space, not to mention all of the empty rooms (occupancy rate continues to hover around 30%).

    Awful. Tacky. Expensive.
Everything the Chelsea has never been specifically known for.
Way to go, Elder & Krauss! Now don’t you wish you hadn’t thrown all of Stanley’s unsold shirts in the dumpster? What you make in profit has already been eaten up by that wasteful act, dummies.

They can’t have the tee shirts in the east showcase because thats where they post all of their falsified building permits.

Why did they take the Times artcle down? Is Stanley Bard mentioned in there too many times? Or is that Andrew Tilley wasn’t mentioned enough? Put it back up, Tilley, you dumbasss.

Marlene Krauss has an MBA from Harvard. I’m sure she did a rigorous examination of the mass tee-shirt market.

These are called “Ringer Tees”, the ones with piping around the collars and sleeves. As in, David and Marlene must have finally put revenues through the ringer if hawking these ugly things to tourists is what they’ve resorted to…

Ok, ok. Just so Marlene and David won’t think we’re all just a bunch of sour pusses I’m willing to offer, ih the spirit of community, a suggestion for the forthcoming “Hotel Chelsea Commemorative Catalogue.” The Dylan Thomas Whisky Snifter…”Do not go gently into that good night.”

Sure why not transform the entire lobby into a gift and T-shirt shop.
This is not an attractive look. Try giving one away free with each reservation. You might actually get some takers. Doubtful anyone will pay thirty clams for one.

Maybe if one of the sleeves had been dipped in Sid’s vomit then I’d give Marlene Krauss my $30

Marlene Krauss should sell her shares, not t shirts, before they’re each worth about the same.
Her bright ideas are not working except against her.

Does anyone have any info on why they haven’t been able to rent the retail space?

Unbelievably (I don’t know why!), the Limbo bar of mediocrity has been lowered yet again by Tilley and Krauss! This is akin to when we made and tried to sell peace symbol t-shirts in Junior Achievement, long after the hippie movement had it’s seminal impact…needless to say, they ended up as dust rags.

The manner in which they are displayed in the case looks like a big ol’ Band-Aid. Let’s just put a huge Band-Aid on the Chelsea. That’ll fix all the boo-boo’s! Which color do you choose? Ugh.

Please!!!! Let the inmates run the asylum, at least until the Bards return!! Now they have a security guard on the tenth floor 24/7. When asked why he was there, he said that an alarm needs to be put on the roof door. Isn’t that cheaper than paying someone to sit there and read the paper for 24 hours a day? This is when the residents “must remove everything from the roof”by tomorrow ; I guess it will be done through there own apartment access. DUH! On Friday night, someone pounded on my door at 7:30 and again at 9:30, when I asked the SECURITY GUARD who it was, he replied that it was my neighbor and it wasn’t.

The Hotel Chelsea is being systematically turned into a lackluster theme hotel and you’re complaining about typos? God, I hate typo nazis. They are always more concerned about order over substance.
Meanwhile, the new regime at the hotel proves once again they have no style, no class, no substance.

What is with these people? Their management strategy clearly has not worked. Occupancy is very low. The protests are not going to stop. So why don’t they bring back the Bards and rectify the situation already? Is Marlene’s vendetta against the Bards so great that she will let the hotel go into the dumper before she’ll let the people who built the hotel’s reputation run it again? People who admire the Bards would love to buy Marlene and Elder’s stock. Why won’t they give up the ghost already? Does Marlene Krauss really want to be the subject of a Harvard case study on how not to run a hotel? Unfuckingbelievable.

A staff member told me that the hotel was having to dip into its cash reserves just to meet its payroll — they’re going to need to sell a lot of Fruit of the Looms to pay those bills………….

Well, Marlene Krauss and Davi Elder (plus their lickspittle Anfrew Tilley) clearly WANT to be known as the people who killed the Chelsea Hotel. It is all too depressing.

they’ve got some nerve trying to double, triple, or possibly quadruple their money. if they buy the shirts online they’re paying about fifteen each, and if they were dumb enough to buy bulk then the markup is even more exorbitant. isn’t the chelsea supposed to be known for at least a little fashion sense? if you’re going to sell a souvenir shirt for thirty dollars, care enough about your consumer to give them something that is quality and unique! not this dreck that looks pretty good for washing the car in — if a shamwow came included. forget fashion sense, the chelsea is definitely supposed to be known as unique. this is not. these new management guys just don’t know where they are. yet.

I learned from a reliable source that Andrew Tilley (or, rather, the Hotel) bought CASES of these eyesores. They are stacked up behind the reception desk and few, if any, are selling.
