Oh, boy… Simply embarrassing. I’m surprised those chics even knew who Andy Warhol is/was. What next? “Bob Dylan who? Oh, that Senator [Bob Dole] from Kansas! He stayed at the hotel? Cool!” Oy-vey.

Question for you – I was thinking of staying there for an extended trip in NY, and thought I’d read about it on the net first to see if it was anything like it once was. I’m so sorry about everything that’s going on there… I can understand maintenance an upgrades to wiring, plumbing, plaster….etc, but remaking the Chelsea as a “modern” hotel seems really sad. I can stay at a new hotel anywhere in NY.
What about the tenants – is anyone moving in there as a tenant or is the new management trying to move all the folks who live there out? Do they even let new tenants move in these days? Just curious how those living there’s experience might be different from those just “staying” there.
Thanks for the info, and best of luck…LikeLike

Imagine what tourists will say if Krauss and Elder control the hotel for 50 years (shudder), if they say anything at all and don’t just pass by without noticing.

JM,
The Chelsea is a wonderful place to stay. I stay there several times a year (almost monthly). If you have read up on the Chelsea’s history and can appreciate it for the creative mecca that it is, then don’t be intimidated or read to much into the doom and gloom… just book it. You won’t be disappointed.
Enjoy!

Dear JM:
Do NOT listen to Liam — this place currently has the mood of a hellhole. The management presently in control have destroyed completely the cool vibes that made the Chelsea legendary. It feels more like an office of some government agency now than some hipster hangout — forget it and stay someplace else.
As for Andrew “Liam” Tilley, get lost poser. I mean, loser.LikeLike
