Hearts around the world warmed today with Marlene Krauss’ suggestion that a reconciliation with the Bard family may be possible.  Although declining to go on the record at this time, Patrick Hedlund writes   ChelseaBards1H that, “Krauss said she still keeps an open dialogue with Stanley Bard…”  but would not go further at this time to confirm David Bard’s long awaited return as manager of the Chelsea hotel.
Needless to say, even the prospect of David Bard’s return should be cause for an international celebration and a sincere opportunity to restore the Chelsea Hotel ’s good reputation and fiscal balance.
As tenants, we welcome this opportunity to come together with management and get behind Marlene Krauss and David Elder to support David Bard's possible return to manage the hotel.  Marlene Krauss, we're rooting for you. (Photo: The Observer)

This is the kind of out of the box thinking that will get Marlene Krauss on the cover of Business Week. And rightly so.

Please let this be true. Please. Please.
All will be forgiven, Marlene — please let David Bard return.

Wow, Marlene Krauss may really have the Hotel’s best interst at heart. I wouldn’t mind having egg on my face if that’s the case.

OMG, could this be the big moment? That I can again return to stay at my beloved Hotel Chelsea? I’ll happily pay any price you name just to have it the way it was — wow, Go Marlene!

I just read Hedlund’s article. Two points seem significant. First, Krauss has left the management position open. Second, she was unwilling to give specific details about the future role of David Bard. Putting two and two together might equal the return of David Bard. We can only hope.

If Marlene Krauss is extending an olive branch everyone benefits. There is not a problem in this building that David Bard cannot solve if he works alongside Krauss and Elder.

    What about Stanley?
Would the Bards have control of the Hotel, or would David Bard just have to do the bidding of Krauss and Elder?
What makes anyone think Krauss and Elder, given the history, really care about the hotel?
Would Krauss and Elder be willing to sell their share to the Bards or to others sympathetic to the Bards and the hotel?

Strange that Krauss would point out that Elder is a California resident. Is he trying to avoid NY State taxes or something?

No Elder’s sister owns the rent free studio where he lives. She probably won’t pay his rent in NYC, which is why he camps out at the Hotel while simultaneously claiming to live in fear of its residents.

Elder has a lot of experience? Is Krauss serious? Why don’t she and Elder sell their stock back to the Bards or to people who care about the hotel? That’s the best answer now. Bring back the Bards — all of them. I don’t see how having Marlene Krauss and David Elder still in control changes much.

“The people who are being vicious, I don’t know if they really care, but they’re really hurting our hotel,” Krauss said.
Was she saying this in front of a mirror?

Quite right, easy target. She and Elder have been vicious, and they are the ones who have been hurting the hotel. She can spin it all day, it doesn’t change the truth. Time to bring back the Bards. The sooner it is done, the sooner the hotel can be righted.

Vicious, Marlene? Whoa, how’s that? By not turning a blind eye while your parade of amateurs wreak havoc on the Hotel’s body and soul?
The Bards were, and still are, the Soul of the Chelsea; just temporarily disembodied.
Most of us, Marlene, wish you just would let it go, whatever your disagreements and quarrels are with the Bards, and just get back to business as usual. Its true, a few don’t want Stanley back, or are ambivalent, but they’re a rag tag bunch.
Just hire an accountant you both agree on, and monitor the books, so you’re satisfied they are correct. Take David Elder, shove him back in the broom closet — way back on in there — because associating yourself with that creep will only invite litigation.
Barring all that, Miss Lady, you’ve given as much quarter as Bernie Madoff gave you, and shouldn’t expect any in return.

    David Bard,
is the brick and iron, steam and light, past, present and future,
simply the man born to restore to a
prominence and elegance the jewel his family saved. His destiny is entwined with the life of the Chelsea and only he can make it right and wonderful.
