Hey, I know it's popular but this is ridiculous! It was a good thing I grabbed a Chelsea Now early on the day they came out (Friday, March 13), because by the next day they were not to be found in any of the orange Chelsea Now boxes near the Chelsea Hotel. I thought this was really odd, since papers usually stay in these boxes almost until the day that the next batch comes out (the paper is now bi-weekly.).
Odder still, when some of the boxes near the hotel were refilled this week, the newspapers were once again all gone by the next day. Coincidentally or not, the issue contained several Pro-Bard letters to the editor. The week before, when one anti-Bard letter was in the paper, there was no problem finding one in boxes around the Hotel. (The Chelsea Hotel itself has banned Chelsea Now from its lobby, apparently in retalitation for a Pro-Bard editorial that ran a few weeks back.)
So what gives? I'd like to hear if others have had trouble locating Chelsea Now? And to whoever removed the papers, just remember theft of "free" newspapers is a crime in New York state.

I haven’t seen them around either Ed. You can get it online, but isn’t illegal to throw out newspapers?

Ed,
I would not characterize those three letters as Pro-Bard with the exception of Arthur’s. Two of the letters seem to be from people who are keeping up with the issues impacting New York City.LikeLike

Sure they’re Pro Bard, insofar as they’re Pro Blog and the Blog is Pro Bard — which is why a few Benedict Arnolds opt to criticize the Blog’s coverage of the Chelsea takeover instead of just living their lives, or god forbid having concern for something other than their own self preservation. Apparently the invention of the World Wide Web [not accomplished by the Chelsea Bloggers] threatens to derail their pursuit of bohemia…

Just thats plain stoopid to blame the Chelsea Blog. Thats like holding the New York Times accountable for Bernie Madoff, or whichever paper broke the story. The blog is a news source like any other, so unsubscribe!
How about blaming those who threw out the Bards? Nevermind the sh*t they’ve pulled on residents old, young, sick, well and everywhere in between, they can’t even rent a room! Nobody wants them! Nobody is coming! Nobody is going to come, not so long as they feel that a big part of the magic — the Bards — were put out with the trash.
Get a clue, people. This place isn’t about Y-O-U its about those who created it — and that’d be the Bard Family. It was their talent that went into this place, into maintaining it through good and bad and high and low economies and even in the wake of a terrorist attack the old man found a way to keep the Hotel profitable.
Hard to hear, I’m sure, but we’re all just passing through in every sense, and while we’re all here you might consider throwing full support behind the people who made the Hotel attractive to your life and lifestyle in the first place.LikeLike

Banning newspapers? What a Mickey Mouse way to maintain “control”.

Oh, sorry, I wanted to say that stealing newspapers is a pretty weak way to subvert public opinion too

“…though the theft itself is upsetting and illegal, what it says about the state of society is even more upsetting. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of the press – even if one does not agree with the paper. But too few people understand the importance of this guarantee.”
From The Ithacan online and totally germane to the sitch at Hotel Chelsea right now.LikeLike

I had to confirm this rumor for myself& took the long route for coffee this a.m., passing by a dozen Chelsea Now newsboxes without a single issue of CN to be had. Its more than suspicious its as the blog says, ridiculous.
Would be nice to catch the thief on hidden camera. Maybe David Elder has one he can spareLikeLike
