Everybody knows that recently you've been able to get a room at the Chelsea Hotel for $89.00 a night.  We've even heard of people getting this rate for large suites. The Wall Street Journal recently ran an Campaignmoney2 article which reports: "Evidence from 2001 suggests that a short-term cyclical downturn could turn into a long-term problem because once room rates are cut, it can take years for them to get back to previous levels."  Maybe this was why in previous economic downturns Stanley Bard had the sense to convert the transient rooms to permanent rooms to ride out the recessions. Krauss and Elder's mismanagement could put the Chelsea in the red for years to come.  They'll be gone and the Hotel will still be suffering.  Other hoteliers should be concerned about Krauss's mismanagement as well since the article goes on to say, "The downturn in the global hotel industry could be deeper and more prolonged than expected if hotel companies continue slashing room rates." — Ed Hamilton  (photo source)

David Bernstein (remember that henchman?) explained that I needed to vacate as my apartment could fetch $700 night. When I countered that it would not get that rate, and if it did, there was no way it would happen all 30 days of the month, he said I was dead wrong.
Sick to hear that these people calculated these “market rates” during their brief tenure as Stanley clearly realized that the economic upswing would not last forever and balanced the hotel accordingly. He survived many downturns in New York and seemed to have the business down to a science– he carried the hotel through some lean years.
Marlene and Elder are greedy vultures with no experience in hotels whatsoever. They should be removed for mismanagement immediately.

$89 a night? Marlene and David should be walking with their tails between their legs. Call the Ramada Inn a block away, for crissakes. They won’t budge from a buck fifty nine a night. And besides the breakfast buffet when was the last time you heard of anything cool happening at the Ramada? Just goes to show the magic Bard Family magic is non-Transferable

past tense — they’ve already run it into the ground and the only thing that will save the hotel as so many know and love it is a swift return of the bard family. today we lost the hotel’s historic mailboxes. our new ‘stewards’ in their wisdom decided to tear the entire bank off the wall then hack it into pieces as horrified tourists watched from beyond the reception desk…
