I own Capitol Fishing Tackle Co. I went to work at the store in 1973 and bought it in 1974.The Bards treated me fairly. The space wasn't cheap, but I made a living and it was fun.Stanley and his family are wonderful people. We were all in tears when we found out that Capitol Fishing could no longer remain at the Hotel Chelsea. I moved the store for two reasons. I couldn't think about closing a business that was 109 years old at that time, and, more importantly, our son wouldn't let me. Fishing is his passion and he loves working in the store that will some day be his. Our famous sign is at 132 W 36th St. We have a great landlord and a very long lease. I didn't let Marlene Krauss and David Elders win. Believe it or not, Marlene Krauss's father was a gentleman. If he was alive today, he wouldn't be proud of his daughter. — Richard Collins

Richard we miss you!
Its a tragedy that your space still sits empty. Now, in the absence of another tenant, what would have been the harm of you staying on and continuing to pay rent? None!!! But try telling that to the lunkheaded management that took over here and pushed you out.
This week the Hotel began eviction lawsuits against long time RESIDENTS who have both the ability and the willingness to pay their rent.
What goes on in the Capitol space now is an insult to history –and just plain ‘fishy’LikeLike

Why are long-term residents being evicted if they are willing & able to pay rent? It sounds both sick & unfair …

I cannot believe they are still trying to evict with no basis. It is shocking to me that they still are waging a campaign to remove the very people their fathers embraced for decades.

they are even trying to evict a 15 year tenant who lives next door to bob dylan’s apartment that they illegally demolised!!!! and after they nearly knocked down the other tenants’ living room wall with all of the sledgehammers pounding away!!!
these landlords should be in jail, not behind the front desk. i hope that tenant really lets them have it.
ALSO THEY ARE TRYING TO REGISTER ROOMS UNDER THE COVER OF DARKNESS but they cannot close the barn door once they horses have escaped so EVERYBODY WHO GETS SUED FOR ANY REASON SHOULD FILE A COUNTERSUIT DEMANDING RENT STABILIZATION.
THIS IS A STABILIZED BUILDING AND ALL TENANTS ARE ENTITLED TO RENT STABILIZATION WHETHER “NEW MANAGEMENT” HAS TRIED TO REGISTER THE ROOM OR NOT.LikeLike

What a great store – as well as a unique piece of living, breathing Americana. How could anyone fail to see the value of Capitol Fishing in the Chelsea landscape? It’s a damned shame.
