The Chelsea Hotel has been known for decades as the home of the non-stop party, and while some of you may have thought the party was finally over with the ouster of the Bards, we’re here to say it ain’t so, Joe.  The following is an excerpt from a sworn affidavit by a former hotel employee in a personal injury lawsuit, Arthur Nash, plaintiff vs. David Elder, Chelsea 23rd St. Corp., BD NY Hotels, LLC, Charles CHELSEA TEQUILA TZAR PIC(2) Ferri, et. al., before the Supreme Court of the State of New York.  The document is especially revealing for the light it shines on Chelsea Hotel management practices.  The former employee writes:

 Office Environment

60.    The Office was incredibly unorganized.

61.     There was no clear hierarchy in the Office among the workers, with the exception of Tamasar who was the boss of the rest of us.

62.  I occasionally asked [name redacted] for guidance or advice as [name redacted] worked there longer than I had.

63.  Often, it felt like it was a party at the Hotel and in the Office.

64.   Tamasar takes pain pills on a regular basis, which may or may not be prescription.

65.   Tamasar came into the Office on many occasions and handed out his pain pills to employees.

66.   Office employees were encouraged to regularly consume Tamasar’s pain pills during work hours while on the job.

67.    On some occasions, Tamasar would take the Office employees out to eat and drink at a restaurant, and we would all consume alcoholic beverages.

68.   On occasion, Tamasar and the Office employees would go out to drink alcoholic beverages excessively, including tequila shots, while the Office was closed during regular business hours.

69.   After drinking at a restaurant, Tamasar would send the Office employees home, rather than back to open up the Office for the remainder of the regular business hours.

 70.   Tamasar also sent me to purchase alcohol to bring back to the Office that Tamasar and the Office employees then consumed while at work during regular business hours.  This occurred a minimum of nine (9) or ten (10) times in my less than six (6) months spent working in the Office.

Party on, Tequila-tsar!

Seriously, though, we’ve repeatedly written in this blog that the post-Bard management is incompetent, and now it seems we have an insider who agrees with us.  Frankly, we had no idea things had gotten this bad.  The employee’s allegations, if true, would seem to raise serious safety, liability, and even criminal issues for the hotel.

that’s precisely what new management said when they landed on the scene…now they’re out the door, or practically so…what convinces you new owner(s) can “takeover” and renovate without a CONH? much harder to procure than handfuls of arnold tamasar’s pain meds…

I’d always heard its poppin’ at the Chelsea Hotel, now I know what it means: pill poppin’! One might think with an 80 million $ sale pending this dummy wouldn’t be acting so irresponsibly. The manager could be locked up for this, and no money need change hands under Federal law for him to be classified as a drug trafficker.

Just don’t bet too heavily on it, Jays. The whole taking over and “renovating” the heck out of the Chelsea Hotel schtick has been tried over the last three and a half years, by the dunderheads who just unloaded it. Or, rather, who are TRYING to.
In other words, nothing is written in stone. An appropriate adage in this case might be “don’t believe everything you read”. Joseph Chetrit doesn’t want to inherit the problems that current management is actively trying to hide from he and his investors.
The only thing the Chelsea needs is an able exterminator to rid it of the no-talent vermin who’ve screwed the place up.

sds, we live at the hotel and before there were ‘new’ owners, the chelsea still had owners. numerous rich and embattled owners. so we’re intimately familiar with the practices of corporate landlords who want their rent stabilized tenants to vanish into thin air. yet there’s still at least 100 chelseaites, in spite of post-bard management’s concerted efforts to chase us off. as for it being “all over” which has become a mantra for wishful thinkers, let’s not forget that no demolition work takes place on a residential apartment building without a CONH — that’s a ‘certificate of non-harassment’ and its an intensely legalistic, years-long process, which is why ‘new management’ failed miserably and the chetrit group has been obliged to provide free apartments (for life) to residents of other properties they’ve purchased.
with so much speculation over the pending sale, quite a few are entering the discussion no less than three point five years late, and can’t be faulted for not knowing the angles. misinformation is routinely parroted where the hotel is concerned. you can, though, read up on past events in previous blog entries. its an invaluable source of info.
as for protecting ourselves, again, you’re cordially invited to read up! we’re not sheep, or rather most of us are not. and most (if not all) of us could have “cashed out” a long time ago if this was on our minds. the media fails to cover that part of the story. the hotel is our home, and we’re here for the long haul. it is far, far from ‘over’!!!

Look , Im on your side! Im just telling you that you don’t know what your dealing with. But im sure you will soon find out.And yes , they are super smart! and no, you do not know the first thing about Chetrit…as 90 % of the property he owns (and converts) is not listed in his or his companies name. These guys are huge ! The chelsea is small potatoes for them. I don’t even know why they bought it.Unless they are going to make a lot of money…thats what they do, period! But if you think that they are not going to rip out the roof gardens etc and put up a roof bar/party space your in a dream world. And if the leases are not “Iron Clad” they will get them out. and if you stay …they will make life miserable for everyone. The prior “new management ” is a joke compared to this.
    I wish you well.

Nothing amusing about the use (or misuse) of controlled substances! Not to mention the jeopardized health of those eating the manager’s pills, there are real live people and families, lots of em, who live in the hotel and their safety is put at serious risk when those responsible for their saftey are high as a kite!

i agree with this statement hey what if a hotel employee got in a wreck on the way home or god forbid fell off a subway platform because they were drunk or high on the hotel manager’s supply??? he probably thinks supplying drugs and alcohol make him a “cool boss” but it’s anything but cool to give your subordinates substances that will alter their mood and perception. how exactly is this going to increase productivity?

As I said… he’s gone as soon as they takeover ! And we better all watch out and be ready for the fight of our lives! because they will try to get us out in anyway they can! These guys have a horrible reputation for evicting tenants with any means possible ! Just google Chetrit & Park West Village (on upper west side )Arnold is just a doormat now ..along with the rest of the staff ( unfortunately for the good staff). He’s just scheming to get as much as he can sucked out of the chelsea before he’s told to leave . And whoever has art in the hotel should take it back before “someone” sells/takes it! Concentrate your energy and resources on getting an attorney & sticking together!

as someone who works at the hotel, I can say that it’s just not that simple. arnold tamasar is very arrogant and confident on the surface. i’m sure he would like everyone to believe that it is so clean cut and simple, that he is in total control, but there are alot of loose ends needing to be tied up.
do you think he doesn’t care about the recent goings on? he would never let you know it, but he does. you just watch and see.

Er…an actual resident in the hotel might know stategies like “get an attorney” and “keep YOUR apartments” (emphasis mine) were timely and relevant four years ago, and would be aware that they’ve already tried “getting US out any way they can”…but we appreciate your support.

Tamasaurus: noun \ˈta-mə-ˌsȯr\ (from Geek: δεινός spineless and σαύρα lizards) is a clique of domesticated animals that were the dominant managerial invertebrates for over 2 years, from the late Tilley period (about 2.5 years ago) until the end of the Kraussaceous period (about 2 months ago), when the Kraussaceous–Eldergene extinction event led to the demise of most Tamasaur species at the close of the Bardozoic era.
Interpretations of Tamasaurs behavior are generally based on the pose of their fossils and comparisons with modern animals in similar ecological niches. As such, the current understanding of Tamasaur behavior relies on speculation, and will likely remain controversial for the foreseeable future.
