We don’t know the exact details but, Star Lounge was reportedly broken into early Monday morning between 4 and 7 a.m.   (We saw the cops out in front of the club at around 9 a.m.)  It’s hard to care what happens to the place since they keep us up to all hours with their loud music and raucous street parties, but the Star is in our basement, and  as such, anyone who breaks into there could easily gain entry to the Chelsea itself.

So where, you might ask was our rented security while this break-in was occurring.  Good question.  After all,  aren’t they supposedly guarding the door 24-hours a day?  We, as residents, have a right to know the answers to these questions.

The NYPD was out in front at 4 am to address the so-called Star Lounge ‘guests’ breaking glass and pounding on parked cars, so it must have happened after 4 a.m. Nice crowd theyre attracting. Not at all surprised they were broken into. If it wasn’t staged, that is.

Fascinating…we telephoned the desk @ four o’clock a.m. to have “security” disperse the crowd of thirty or so Star Lounge HIp Hop Party (to be read: Non-Hotel) guests who were crowded under the Hotel’s awning yelling at the top of their lungs. Needless to say nothing was done about it and all I got was an attitude from the new hire who answered the desk phone. She must have flippantly repeated, “I’m not Security” about five times into the receiver, as if the fact wasn’t already obvious. Outside, “security” was doing nothing but idly standing there. So, for the record, whoever broke into the Star Lounge could probably have been discouraged by security — but weren’t. If they don’t stay here or live here, they don’t belong hanging around here when they finish whatever doing whatever it is that they do down in the Lounge.
So, what? The Star Lounge doesn’t have a security system of it’s own to keep intruders out? That would seem pretty fishy right off the bat

The Star Lounge was hideous, my daughter and I went there just to see what was so special about this place…We found nothing of value whatsoever. The drinks were mediochre at best and the clientel even worse. We were kept awake every night, our windows were shaking almost to the point of breaking. I am confused as to why this place has any place in this wonderful hotel. BRING BACK THE BARDS!

The Bards are the ones that signed the lease for Star Lounge!!!!! Do your research, stop blaming Andrew Tilley. Stanly Bard was looking for cash and took it. Look beyond 2n floor and descover facts.

“Chelsea Facts” – Some of us live at the HOtel. We’re aware of who Stanley let it because he signed our leases, as well. We know our facts and what its like to LIVE here. Unlike you, a Corporate Cheerleader and very likely David Elder or an agent/snitch for David Elder, taking up for Andrew Tilley who has done nothing to control the situation. If you think you’d like living above the Star Lounge then call and make a reservation for a room between the first and FIFTH floors and you will have plenty to complain about. Wait, you already have plenty to complain about and you wouldn’t know which way was up if the lights were out.

Stanley Bard was “looking for cash and took it?” Sounds familiar.
Another swipe at the old man who built this place we’re all so concerned with. Goes to show if one hasn’t invested themselves in something one typically places no value on the result — in this case the result is the Hotel Chelsea. Marlene Krauss, David Elder and Tilley all ‘inherited’ their roles so they don’t care if they chase away every last semblance of what Bard created. Their egos tell them they are up to the job.
Oh by the way, “Friend”, your comment is a plant. Nice try Tilley.

So according to ‘Chelsea Facts’, since Stanley agreed to the Star Lounge lease that gives them the right to become a noise hazard and for their employees to interfere with residents? And even, in more than one instance, assault residents of the Hotel? Stanley didn’t include those ‘rights’ in their Lease. Sorry! Not a very strong argument in support of Star Lounge.

Thank you all for your slander! Firstly, let me say that I am NOT a fan of David Elder. I looked in the LA website, and what the poster said was true!! I cannot reveal who I am, as this would cause controversy. I am not a great speller! Thanks for brining that up! I know the hotel and I understand the worries of the tenents. I have stayed there before many times. However, NONE of you have anything to worry about as you are all protected by NYC housing laws. Stanley Bard is a good man, he is also a money grabber, as the Chelsea was inhereted, he made it what it used to be in the 70’s and 80’s ( remember the prostitutes and drugs! how soon we forget!) All the new management is trying to do is make it respectable again and bring it back to original glory, what a beautiful place it will be. The new management is NOT looking to expell tenants. That is a fact. I admire Andrew Tilley, i got to know him and he has only the best intentions for the building. He IS a businssman, and of course will try to turn a larger profit for the hotel. Elder and Krauss..they are not very nice people, but you are stuck with them. If they remain in business you are protected, if they sell, that is what you must fear! Thee is no where else in the world where art is displayed by so many people, the Chelsea is a legend..and the appeal is marketable. Dont worry tenants, you are what makes the Chelsea what it is, everyone knows that. Be happy, relax and enjoy what you had and have.

    Dear facts & “friend”
Everyone who is in this hotel is here as a result of the Bards. To support David Elder, Marlene Krauss & Andrew Tilley in any shape or form is a slap in the face to the Bard family. If you are a resident it is even more puzzling that you support these hostile rulers. They have publicly stated many times that they want a boutique hotel. Of course they would pretend otherwise to your face and they are attempting to use residents in their propaganda war. In other words, people seem to be supporting their own demise! I’m actually surprised by the lack of deep thought exhibited by many in the building. GO FIGURE.

‘Friend’ isn’t a resident. Probably has never been here. Certainly never met the Bards, that sounds like a lot of hooey.
Not surprising whatsoever that ‘A Friend’ is actually an Anonymous pal of Tilley’s, taking up for him as if they have any knowledge at all of whats going on in the Hotel. Sorry to break the news but Andrew Tilley is a dime a dozen, a cheap suit who cheapens the Chelsea Hotel with his presence, most appropriate at the Hard Rock Hotel or some such drecked-out place. He won’t last long.

Liam that’s why they’re called differing opinions. Maybe its only a problem when those opinions don’t jive with your own. Anyway those who live in the Hotel know whats up. And we’re watching also.
PS the comment from ‘A Friend’ to which you refer doesn’t indicate whether they are a resident or not, so your own comment strongly suggests youre the same person or just another plant.

‘Friend with Facts’, if anyone around the Hotel supports a hospitality hack like Andrew Tilley being manager of this revered Landmark or anyone but the Bards navigating its future, its because they’re scared animals who don’t have any real fight in them and can’t bear the idea of losing their ‘identity’ as Chelseaites. They’re small-minded creatures trying to keep themselves off the endangered list. For such a vast minority they are remarkably easy to spot. Whats strange is that they don’t think Stanley takes notice. He still owns this place, and when he gets back the shit’ll hit the fan. Hard.

Ahem…they’re “accused” of being Krauss, Elder and Tilley because — just as the post from ‘A Friend’ shows — they like to plant propaganda on the blog. Is that so hard to imagine, Liam? And the comments are typically dead giveaways. If you haven’t yet taken notice, the blog is generally Pro-Bard.
As for being paranoid, don’t you know that we at the Chelsea are already plenty paranoid? Very much so, but not from anything Tilley, Krauss or Elder have done. Its from all the drugs we do nonstop, round the clock. And from trying to keep these damned hookers quiet, they make such a racket. They are still–i might add–more welcome here than Andrew “Blow It Out Yer Arse” Tilley.

“Friend” makes insinuations (i.e. “Look past the 2nd floor”) yet Tilley isn’t being scapegoated. He’s been here months, he’s failed to perform and even fabricated DHCR testimony against a tenant he admits he’s never interacted with, the details of which are bound to come out sooner or later. After that little performance he deserves the slings and arrows.

Hey OCT 14, 7:26PM – Call Stanley and David Bard. They gave Mr. Ferri the lease. The Chelsea may be going through a difficult time, but the calls for Bring Back the Bards! just sound stupid in response to the Star Lounge nonsense. The Bards made Star lounge happen for f*cks sake!

WUP, its already been conceded that the Bards signed the Star Lounge lease — its not news and you repeating it under a different name doesn’t make it news. You just sound..how did you put it? Stupid. The Bards also kept the Star Lounge, its noise pollution and its employees in check. Unable or unwilling to do the same are Andrew Tilley, current manager, and miniority owner David Elder, who made the lunkhead decision to hire Lounge employees to assault residents of the Hotel. Any more current events you need catching up on? Wake yerself up

Sounds like Ferri & Co. are concerned about their operating licenses and well they should be. What passed when Bard was here won’t pass anymore and every time the walls shake, every time the noise passing as music comes up through the floors we will all be on the horn with the City until the place is shut down for good.

although i don’t wish to give new management any new strategies, maybe “wake up people” thinks we ought to all wait until our own apartments are burglarized before we send out a call to bring back the bards…i’d like to know if thats their practice where they live — to just wait for something bad to happen before saying anything about it. well, its already happened. the blog entry states this, but fyi the star lounge and the hotel chelsea share a connected basement. if one is broken in to, the other can be just as easily. right under the noses of tilley’s paid “security” staff.

The Bards did NOT give Ferri a lease. The three knucklehead ‘traders’, who ‘bought’ Serena’s, sold the operation to Ferri. Andrew Tilley needs a ladder to climb out from the rock that he is under. The Chelsea Hotel gig is the last stop for a groovy guy (with highlights) like him…from the hallowed halls of the hard rock hotel to the ‘discombabulated’Hotel Chelsea. ONLY LOSERS are relegated to the Hotel Chelsea. Andrew Tilley reminds me of the salesmen at the street fairs who sell mops or vegetable choppers with a british accent to give them more ‘credibility’… Marlene Krauses’ idea of a sophisticated manager. Glennon Travis is selling golf clubs somewhere; what will Andrew Tilley be doing next?

Silky – Thanks for that info – had wrongly assumed, like his detractors have been posting here on the blog, that Stanley signed a lease for Ferri. It makes much more sense now that Ferri slithered his way into the basement instead of being invited.
