It’s eerily quiet in the Hotel today.  They cleared the last of the tourists out of their rooms yesterday – though some of them did not go quite willingly.  One family called the cops because staff removed their bags while they were out.  And another guest flipped out and had to be taken to Bellevue.  Besides that a vandal kicked out a window in the fire door on the first Destructiononjuly31 floor – probably Sid’s ghost, upset over recent developments.  (Note the abandonded maid’s cart in the photo. Our bathrooms were not cleaned yesterday. ) Finally, someone apparently sabotaged the pipes filling the basement with sewage.  And through it all, manager Arnold Tamasar, with nary a tequila shot in sight remained at his post like a trooper.  Here he is yesterday afternoon being served with papers in yet another law suit, this one involving allegations of wrongful termination.  And, no, as of this writing we don’t yet know if the sale went through or not.   Click the link to view the video.

There isn’t a housekeeping staff person in sight. NYPD out front. The engineers were locked out; their union rep is coming at noon. The goon squad ‘security’ is at the ready. But, they let three curiousity seekers slip by; one of whom was dangling her legs through the stairwell rails. I guess being a cute white girl sporting short shorts is a good disguise for being a resident.

This breaks my heart…for the workers, of course, but mostly for the spirit and essence of this grand old dame.

It “serves” Mr. Tamasar right, as karmic payback for all of the chaos he has brought to the Hotel Chelsea. I hope they take his last penny so he has nothing to show for all of his “work” than bad memories.

Got to love this guy’s reaction to the lawsuit. It’s priceless. Does he think by throwing the papers back at the process server that he’s somehow not been served? No, pal…you’ve been served.

The lobby looks horrid. Where are Lambert’s paintings? And threatening a 92 year old tenant? This is a new low, a one way ticket to a pit of molten lava.
I’m blessed to have stayed at the Chelsea and to have had the opportunity too write there. I was however too late in the game to become a resident. They ousted the Bards and stopped taking applications. Now, I live in south Chelsea and with a sour stomach I’m watching the Hotel and everything it stands for be torn apart one resident and painting at a time.
